Opening Doors at first Rentplus scheme in North Dorset
New affordable homes in an innovative ‘rent to buy’ Rentplus scheme at Shaftesbury have been officially opened.
Cllr Graham Carr-Jones, North Dorset District Council leader and housing portfolio holder, was among the guests at the ceremony at Chilmark Glade.
Rentplus, an innovative business delivering affordable rent to buy housing, and its South West regional partner Tamar Housing, held the event to mark the completion of 12 new properties on the Persimmon Homes’ development.
North Dorset MP Simon Hoare, Shaftesbury’s Town Mayor Piers Brown, Tamar Housing chief executive Julie Barnett, and ward councillor Jo Francis were also among the dignitaries along with families set to move into the new homes.
Cllr Carr-Jones said: “This is a really exciting scheme. It is the first Rentplus scheme in North Dorset and a fantastic opportunity for people to get a foot on the housing ladder.
“I am delighted to see these homes completed.”
Affordable homes of the kind at Chilmark Glade are among the good quality housing that Opening Doors is encouraging.
The aim is for 20,000 more homes of a mix of tenures by 2033 across the North Dorset District Council, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council and West Dorset District Council areas.
Opening Doors has also launched a Home Ownership Register for people seeking to buy and rent. Sign up here.
