Positive reception for Magna proposals
Hundreds of people turned out to give their views about Magna Housing’s redevelopment of the landmark North Quay site on Weymouth harbourside.
They gave a positive reception to proposals to demolish the former Weymouth & Portland Borough Council offices and build new homes.
Visitors at the consultation event at the Crown Hotel were able to talk about ideas for the site over two days and fill in a questionnaire.
The event came at an early stage of the development with Magna seeking views about the look, scale and design of the development as well as the types of properties.
The Dorchester-based housing company aims to build homes which are both desirable and affordable with opportunities for people of all ages to buy or rent their new home, including first time buyers and those who may want to down size and be located centrally.
More than 400 people poured through the doors over two days. Displays from the event are on the Magna website and a link to an online copy of the questionnaire. The deadline for replies is Wednesday January 23.
Magna will review the results of the consultation event and the online questionnaire with the council before making the findings available through its website.
Opening Doors was also at the event, telling people about campaign for more housing and encouraging them to sign up to our Home Ownership Register to find out about all of the latest new homes available for rent and purchase.
